Welcome to Coral Gables

Created in the 1920s by George Merrick during the Florida land boom, Coral Gables continues to be one of Miami's top sought-after neighborhoods to live in. The Gables was one of the first planned communities in America. It has strict architectural and zoning regulations. The city's architecture is almost entirely Mediterranean Revival Style known as "The Gables" for its tree-lined boulevards and Ivy-covered mansions in this area, which will never disappoint. Coral Gables has options for all who are looking for specific features, ranging from high-end condos to single-family homes of all sizes. Residents enjoy a tranquil neighborhood with the peachy habitat of terracotta roofs, jewel-like colors, and lush vegetation. The current population of Coral Gables is currently over 50,000 people.

Historical landmarks found within Coral Gables include the centerpiece of the community and the massive Biltmore Hotel. It still stands as an upscale luxury hotel in the heart of Coral Gables. Built by the Vanderbilt family, the Biltmore property has a 12,000-square-foot pool and a full-service spa which is a member of the Leading Spas of the World, an 18-hole, par 71, championship golf course designed by Donald Rossand the Granada Golf Course is also close by along with the relaxing Venetian pool. A number of Miami’s best restaurants like Seasons 52, Cibo Wine Bar, and the Hillstone, are all clustered near the famous Miracle Mile, a popular section that runs down the central business district.

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden includes tree-lined lakes, a tropical rainforest and a butterfly display. It is another beautiful park made up of 83-acre botanic garden, with a collection of rare tropical plants. Although open to the public, it has 45,000 members and more than 1,200 volunteers. In 2012, Fairchild became the home of the American Orchid Society. The garden hosts a series of seasonal weekend festivals including the International Chocolate Festival, the International Mango Festival, the Butterfly Festival, the Bird Festival, the Orchid Festival, the Ramble, the Food and Garden Festival, and the Edible Garden Festival. Other activities include concerts, and plant society meetings.

Once a tiny Miami suburb, founded as one of the country’s first planned communities, the city is now a spotless home for more than 100 multinational companies and to this day still offers plenty of old-world charm.

Transportation is a critical part of sustainability. Providing safe streets for automobiles, cyclists, pedestrians and transit riders is an important part of Coral Gables' Sustainability Division. The Coral Gables Trolley is a free service provided by the City of Coral Gables. This genius idea was designed to relieve local traffic congestion, reduce parking demand, and connect downtown Coral Gables to surrounding areas through transit connectivity. Each day approximately 5,000 riders enjoy the convenient use of the service. It also connects with the City of Miami Trolley on Flagler Street, Coral Way, and Grand Avenue, making it very convenient to get around within the city as well as out of Coral Gables.

The Metrorail system is another method of transportation with two stops in the heart of the Coral Gables' University of Miami and Douglas Road.

One of Miami's top educational institutions is the University of Miami located at the heart of Coral Gables. Chartered in 1925, this prestigious university has seen the likes of famous alumni like Gloria Estefan, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The University of Miami offers a large library system with over 3.9 million volumes and exceptional holdings in Cuban heritage and music. It also offers a wide range of student activities, including fraternities and sororities, a student newspaper, and a radio station. The University of Miami's athletic team known as the Miami Hurricanes, competes in Division 1 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Their football team has won five national championships since 1983 and its baseball team has won four national championships since 1982.

Coral Gables is located adjacent to Miami, putting it within easy reach of main roads as US1, popular areas like Brickell, Downtown, the Miami International Airport.
